The Mysterious Disappearance of Mike Marcum

Twenty-one year old Mike Marcum built himself a Jacobs ladder for no other reason than his own amusement. He then noticed a strange shimmering circle appear above it. Marcum said he didn’t know what it was, but he got a notion to throw a screw into it. He took a sheet metal screw and threw into the shimmering circle, when it went into the circle the screw disappeared.  Marcum said it was gone for about a second and then reappeared a few feet away. Marcum was convinced the screw went into the future.

Marcum thought he could make himself go into the future for the sole purpose of getting the winning lottery numbers from the future. So he made himself a man-sized Jacobs ladder on the front porch of his home.

He had one problem he needed a lot of power to make it work.

Marcum stole 6 transformers from a local power company. While testing his experiment he was causing brown-outs throughout his neighborhood.  He was arrested January 29, 1995 for stealing the transformers.
Shortly after being released from prison, he was a guest of Art Bell’s on Coast to Coast radio. He told the story of the screw and his plan to make a time machine. He vowed from here on out he would do it legally.

Art Bell had Mike Marcum as a guest again about a year later. Marcum claimed to be experimenting with a more sophisticated time machine. The electromagnetic vortex was big enough for a man to walk into. The interview ended with Marcum claiming to be on the cusp of generating the desired amount of voltage to run the machine. When asked what he would take with he replied just his cell phone.

1997 Mike Marcum has never been heard from since.

Did Mike Marcum succeed? Did he travel into time? Or did all that electricity generated, fry him into nothing?

Shortly after Marcum disappeared a listener called the Art Bell show to talk about a strange story he had found. In the 1930’s police found a dead man on a beach in California. He was crushed to death in a strange metal tube, the man was unrecognizable and a mysterious device was found near his body. The caller said the device looked like a cell phone.

  1. Oh, this story gave me the chills!! I believe that time travel is possible. It often makes me wonder about people who disappear, never to be found again. Could they be victims of time travel, too?
